Position Summary:

The primary focus of the Physician Practice Coordinator (PPC) is to be accountable to the assigned Physician’s (MD) clinical practice by ensuring clinic days are efficient and according to established standards and protocols while maintaining the highest regard for patient care and the overall patient experience.

Location/Schedule:

This position is based in our Blaine clinic but will be required to travel with the Physician and Scribe to other MEC clinics as needed based on the Physician’s schedule. This position works Monday-Friday with hours varying between 6:30am – 5:00pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate assigned MD’s clinic and laser schedule to ensure proper patient flow.
Greet patients and guests according to company standards, anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank others with genuine appreciation. Treat each patient with respect by greeting them by name, introducing self, and ensuring that the patient understands what will happen during the exam.
Document patient exam in electronic medical record, scribing all elements of the patient exam including contact lens template, procedure orders, e-prescribing medications, and scheduling return to clinic appointment(s). Complete coding as directed by MD and ensure charges are captured at the end of every visit.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of daily created clinic chart notes.
Execute special documentation, letters, and other requests with the transcription service.
Coordinate and schedule clinic appointments, including urgents, overbooks , referrals to outside providers, and in-clinic procedures.
Complete all patient issues and tasks and work in partnership with Scribe when necessary. Respond to patient inquiries and document concerns in feedback system. Ensure all patient issues are addressed within one business day.
Counsel/educate patient and family as needed, including the creation of medication grids.
Run end of clinic daily reports and ensure completion of patient documents including but not limited to FMLA, DMV, and disability.
Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.
Assist in minor clinic procedures, including but not limited to obtaining patient signature on consent documents and administering medications.
Print and dispense glasses and/or contact lens prescriptions as directed.
Set up exam rooms and treatment rooms for procedures per MD preference. Ensure exam rooms are continuously stocked with appropriate supplies, cleaned between patients and again at the end of each work day, as well as to assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.
Prepare culture documents and ensure proper storage of specimens, when necessary.
Participate in the onboarding and training of new Team Members, especially those who are assigned to work with the same MD.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

At least three years related experience in a medical office or equivalent education required. Previous experience with electronic medical record systems and ophthalmology/optometry experience highly preferred. Bilingual a plus.

SUMMARY

The Surgical Technologist prepares supplies, equipment and instrumentation for each surgery performed in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Surgical Technologist will assist the physician with the maintenance of the sterile field and all supplies for each surgery. These individuals also assist the Nurse Manager in the maintenance of supply inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Gathers needed procedure appropriate supplies for each surgery.
Opens surgical supplies, sets up sterile field and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique. Identifies any break in sterile technique.
Anticipates the surgeons needs and requests appropriate supplies prior to their immediate need.
Updates surgeon preference cards as needed.
Reports missing or malfunctioning equipment and instruments to the RN in a timely manner.
Operates equipment required to perform job in a safe and efficient manner.
Performs sharp and sponge counts with the RN according to policy.
Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy and utilizes PPE.
Washes and reprocesses instrumentation according to established standards and ASC policy.
Organizes storage area for instruments and supplies under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
Labels medication on the sterile field. Accounts for and verifies amounts, reporting totals to both the surgeon and the RN circulator.
Maintains knowledge of commonly used local anesthetics, antibiotics, and topical hemostats.
Assist RN as directed with physician orders according to patient needs.
Assists in initial Operating Room (OR) set up, including wet mopping floor and wiping down all flat surfaces and assists in initial decontamination room set up.
Cleans OR with appropriate disinfecting agents.
Assists in end of day clean up procedures.
Participates in staff meetings and in-services, accurately maintaining education file.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program and a minimum of one year experience as a Surgical Technologist
Ophthalmology experience strongly preferred.
Current BCLS certification required or must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
Surgical Technologist certification is strongly preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluation of self-practice in context with professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
Obtains patients’ medical history and performs physical assessment for assigned patients.

Pre-Operative duties:

Responsible for preparing the patient for the anticipated surgical procedure, including obtaining an informed consent, completing a pre-operative patient assessment and performing any procedure or administering medications required to prepare the patient for surgery
Communicates with the circulating nurse, the recovery room nurse, the anesthesia care provider and the surgeon to coordinate a safe and comfortable surgical experience. She/He participates in patient education, makes nursing diagnoses and plans nursing care

Post-Operative duties:

Responsible for patient assessment and maintaining the patients safety in recovering from anesthetic and surgical medications
Responsible for ensuring that the patient understands their post-operative care requirements

Summary

The Refractive Surgical Coordinator is responsible for achieving, if not exceeding, growth targets for our Refractive and Advanced Cataract Package services. This position will provide education and counseling based on the recommendations of the physician. This individual will drive the exceptional experiences our patients and referring providers receive when working with Minnesota Eye Consultants. Pay is $54,000/year with bonus potential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Comprehensive knowledge and patient flow expert for Minnesota Eye Consultants’ elective services, such as refractive procedures and processes in order to effectively counsel, educate and schedule patients.
Respond timely and accurately to patient phone and in-person inquiries.
Provide an exceptional patient experience during the consultation and pre-operative portion of the LASIK surgery and Advanced Cataract appointments, including but not limited to, proper patient education and counseling, scheduling, and paperwork/payment collection.
Effectively collaborate with management to promote exceptional patient experience.
Proactively follow-up with non-committed patients, engaging in the education process.
Accurately prepare patient charts for upcoming procedures.
Monitor electronic medical records task box; complete all assigned tasks according to policy and protocols.
Complete 30-day refractive cards and letters; send to patients.
Coordinate referrals for surgery by obtaining approval from providers and scheduling surgery and all post-operative appointments.

MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Ophthalmic Technician II for our Bloomington clinic.

Location/Schedule:

This position will work Monday-Friday, between 7:30am-5:00pm. May require an occasional 1/2 day on Saturday (1-2 times per year). The home base of this position is the Bloomington clinic, but may be scheduled to work shifts at the other MEC locations as needed (Blaine, Minnetonka, Minneapolis, and Woodbury).

Position Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for performing measurements and tests that provide the physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. This position primarily works with the Ophthalmologists but may see patients for any MEC provider within their skill-set.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive starting wage and a comprehensive benefits package. This position is also eligible for a $1,000.00 hiring bonus with an 18 month service commitment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Open exam rooms at the beginning of the shift, ensure all equipment is clean and ready for the doctor
Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications.
Perform and document subjective and objective ophthalmic testing efficiently to provide basic and extensive information necessary for ophthalmic examinations. This includes but is not limited to: history, visual acuities, lensometry (manual and auto), keratometry (manual and automated) visual fields, tonometry, A-scan, B-scan, fundus photography, perform refractive surgery workup’s, assist with basic and complex clinical procedures
Acquaint all patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
Assist in the maintenance and calibration of equipment
Assist with ongoing education and mentoring of staff
Stock all necessary supplies; clean all equipment and close down exam rooms at the end of the day
Regularly communicate and interact with Clinic Manager, MD’s, OD’s, and other members of the clinical team

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent
1-2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician

Certificates, Licensees and/or Registrations Required:

Basic Life Support within six months of employment
COA, COT or COMT preferred but not required
