Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

- Gathers needed procedure appropriate supplies for each surgery.
- Opens surgical supplies, sets up sterile field and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique. Identifies any break in sterile technique.
- Anticipates the surgeons needs and requests appropriate supplies prior to their immediate need.
- Updates surgeon preference cards as needed.
- Reports missing or malfunctioning equipment and instruments to the RN in a timely manner.
- Operates equipment required to perform job in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs sharp and sponge counts with the RN according to policy.
- Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy and utilizes PPE.
- Washes and reprocesses instrumentation according to established standards and ASC policy.
- Organizes storage area for instruments and supplies under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
- Labels medication on the sterile field. Accounts for and verifies amounts, reporting totals to both the surgeon and the RN circulator.
- Maintains knowledge of commonly used local anesthetics, antibiotics, and topical hemostats.
- Assist RN as directed with physician orders according to patient needs.
- Assists in initial Operating Room (OR) set up, including wet mopping floor and wiping down all flat surfaces and assists in initial decontamination room set up.
- Cleans OR with appropriate disinfecting agents.
- Assists in end of day clean up procedures.
- Participates in staff meetings and in-services, accurately maintaining education file.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program and a minimum of one year.
- Current BCLS certification required or must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
- Surgical Technologist certification is strongly preferred.

MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a Part-Time Patient Service Representative (20 hours/week) for our Bloomington clinic.
SUMMARY
The Patient Service Representative is responsible for welcoming patients and visitors to MEC in a warm and friendly manner and helping to prepare for their visit. This includes problem resolution and assisting with paperwork including demographics, insurance information, and collecting co-payments and/or past due balances in a timely manner. Starting pay is $18.50-21.00.
LOCATION & SCHEDULE
This position is based in our Bloomington clinic but will be required to work shifts at other MEC clinics as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome patients and visitors in a warm, friendly, prompt manner as the first point of contact in the overall patient experience and assist with navigational needs and appointment scheduling.
- Verify, obtain, enter and update patient demographics, insurance, referring physician, primary care provider, and other required fields as assigned.
- Assist patients with completion of pertinent forms including but not limited to medical history, patient agreement, workers compensation.
- Collect patient payments for self-pay appointments, co-payments, outstanding balances, and fees for contact lens related items.
- Daily cash reconciliation and posting of cash batch.
- Coordinate and assist patients with transportation needs.
- Prepare patient charts in advance for both clinic and laser visits including printing fee tickets for add on appointments.
- Prepare surgery and dry eye patient packets and laser post-op kits.
- Distribute daily visit paperwork.
- Scan patient paperwork into the electronic health record.
- Facilitate lobby safety and cleanliness as well as cleaning lanyards and badges.
- Comply with established standards and protocols of MEC goals and objectives including compliance with HIPAA and PHI standards and protocols.

- Prepare and submit professional and/or institutional medical claims to payers electronically or via paper when necessary
- Review patient accounts for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory and contractual guidelines
- Troubleshoot claim rejections, denials, or unpaid claims while working with third party payers as well as patients to resolve the billing. This includes submitting corrected claims and creating appeal letters in a timely manner
- Analyze reimbursement audits to ensure transaction processing accuracy according to payer contracts.
- Processing correspondence and filing in a timely manner
- Post payments and adjustments as needed; work with payment posters when discrepancies arise
- Collaborate with coding, front office, patients, and other departments to resolve billing issues
