MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Medical Scribe in our Woodbury clinic. 
 
Position Summary:

The Scribe assists the Doctors of Ophthalmology and/or Optometry with documentation of the patient exam into the patient’s electronic health record (EHR). The Scribe will also assist with facilitation of surgery and procedure scheduling and scheduling of return appointments as directed by the provider. Partners with other clinic staff to facilitate efficient clinic flow and ensure quality patient care.
 
Location and Schedule:
This position is based in our Woodbury clinic but will be required to travel with the Physician and Physician Practice Coordinator to other MEC clinics as needed based on the Physician’s schedule. This position works Monday-Friday with hours varying between 6:30am – 5:00pm.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Document patient exam in EHR, scribing all elements of the patient exam including contact lens template, procedure orders, e-prescribing medications and scheduling the return to clinic.
  • Provide patient and family counseling/education as needed, including the creation of medication grids.
  • Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.
  • Print and dispense glasses and/or contact lens prescriptions as directed.
  • Review all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensure chart documentation meets ICD-10 requirements.
  • Obtain patient signature on consent documents for in lane procedures.
  • Set up exam rooms per provider preference, keep exam rooms stocked and clean between patients; cleaned at end of each work day; assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.
  • Run EHR reports at end of clinic to ensure completion of patient documents.
  • Partner with providers to prepare culture documents, ensure proper storage of specimens, contact lab for pickup and ensure specimen is in the lockbox for pick up.
  • Attend trainings and stay current on requirements for Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measures, HIPAA compliance and Protected Health Information.
  • Schedule return appointments and/or enter recalls in Electronic Practice Management (EPM) as ordered by the provider, including referrals to outside providers
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Education and/or experience required: 
  • High schedule diploma or equivalent.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Keyboarding and computer knowledge.
  • Previous experience with EHR systems and ophthalmology/optometry experience preferred.
  • Bilingual a plus.
  • 1-2 years related experience in a medical office or equivalent education preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • MSCAT preferred.

SUMMARY 
The Surgical Technologist prepares supplies, equipment and instrumentation for each surgery performed in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Surgical Technologist will assist the physician with the maintenance of the sterile field and all supplies for each surgery. These individuals also assist the Nurse Manager in the maintenance of supply inventory. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gathers needed procedure appropriate supplies for each surgery.
  • Opens surgical supplies, sets up sterile field and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique. Identifies any break in sterile technique.
  • Anticipates the surgeons needs and requests appropriate supplies prior to their immediate need.
  • Updates surgeon preference cards as needed.
  • Reports missing or malfunctioning equipment and instruments to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Operates equipment required to perform job in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs sharp and sponge counts with the RN according to policy.
  • Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy and utilizes PPE.
  • Washes and reprocesses instrumentation according to established standards and ASC policy.

SUMMARY

Provides professional, high quality, safe and efficient peri-operative nursing care to patients. Roles include circulating, scrubbing, preoperative and postoperative areas as assigned.



RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluation of self-practice in context with professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
  • Obtains patients’ medical history and performs physical assessment for assigned patients.
  • Presents the historical and physical data to the physician to aid in determining the diagnostic and therapeutic measures necessary to correct the patient’s problem.
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or practice policy including patient and family instruction; explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient; administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques; prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies for surgery.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient; responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
  • Participates in training of personnel.


Pre-Operative duties: 
  • Responsible for preparing the patient for the anticipated surgical procedure, including obtaining an informed consent, completing a pre-operative patient assessment and performing any procedure or administering medications required to prepare the patient for surgery
  • Communicates with the circulating nurse, the recovery room nurse, the anesthesia care provider and the surgeon to coordinate a safe and comfortable surgical experience.  She/He participates in patient education, makes nursing diagnoses and plans nursing care


Post-Operative duties:
  • Responsible for patient assessment and maintaining the patients safety in recovering from anesthetic and surgical medications
  • Responsible for ensuring that the patient understands their post-operative care requirements
  • Collaborates with other peri-operative nursing staff, anesthesia care providers and the surgeon
  • Assesses patient outcomes
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Circulating Nurse duties (if applicable): 
  • Assesses patient condition before, during and after the procedure to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Responsible for maintaining sterile technique in the operating room to ensure patient safety
  • Supervises any unlicensed assertive personnel in the operating room
  • Responsible for ensuring that postoperative physician orders are communicated to the recovery room nursing staff for implementation
  • Develops a plan of care and evaluates patient outcomes
  • Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for the patient


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Completion of accredited Registered Nursing Program from college or technical school. Two years RN experience in a hospital and/or surgery center setting. One year pre-operative and post-operative experience highly preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • A current and up to date MN Registered Nurse (RN) License is required
  • A current and up to date BLS certification is required
  • ACLS is required within 6 months of hire

SUMMARY
As a Patient Financial Services Specialist, you will help guide our patients through the financial impact of their medical services, from routine eye exams to surgical procedures.  This may include helping patients understand their insurance policy and what it may cover, providing estimated out of pocket quotes, and helping to establish payment terms that are mutually practical for both parties.    


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide great customer service to our patients via phone calls to obtain payment, set up payment plans, and pre-collect on procedures.
  • Help patients understand their insurance coverage and meet their financial responsibilities for services rendered or upcoming.
  • Communicate insurance co-pays, deductibles, co-insurances, and out of pocket expenses for point of service collections.
  • Process patient balances in accordance with collection procedures.
  • Review practice management systems (NextGen) for appropriate patient balances, payments, adjustments, overpayments, duplicate payments, or errors.
  • Handle aspects of patient collection processes in a timely manner and in accordance with lawful collection policy and procedures.
  • Notify collection agency of account transactions.
  • Participate in regular team meetings; provides positive feedback and suggestions.
  • Ability to navigate through and understand the Electronic Practice Management and Electronic Health Records (NextGen).

MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time (.8 FTE) Ophthalmic Technician II for our Woodbury clinic. 
 
Location/Schedule:
This position will work Monday-Friday, between 7:30am-5:00pm. May require an occasional 1/2 day on Saturday (1-2 times per year). The home base of this position is the Bloomington clinic, but may be scheduled to work shifts at the other MEC locations as needed (Blaine, Minnetonka, and Woodbury). 

 
Position Summary:  
The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for performing measurements and tests that provide the physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. This position primarily works with the Ophthalmologists but may see patients for any MEC provider within their skill-set.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Open exam rooms at the beginning of the shift, ensure all equipment is clean and ready for the doctor
  • Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications.
  • Perform and document subjective and objective ophthalmic testing efficiently to provide basic and extensive information necessary for ophthalmic examinations. This includes but is not limited to: history, visual acuities, lensometry (manual and auto), keratometry (manual and automated) visual fields, tonometry, A-scan, B-scan, fundus photography, perform refractive surgery workup’s, assist with basic and complex clinical procedures
  • Acquaint all patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
  • Assist in the maintenance and calibration of equipment
  • Assist with ongoing education and mentoring of staff
  • Stock all necessary supplies; clean all equipment and close down exam rooms at the end of the day
  • Regularly communicate and interact with Clinic Manager, MD’s, OD’s, and other members of the clinical team
 
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician
 
Certificates, Licensees and/or Registrations Required:
  • Basic Life Support within six months of employment
  • COA, COT or COMT preferred but not required

MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time Medical Biller at our Bloomington location. This position can be 100% remote or a hybrid position: work from home and in office. 

SUMMARY
Performs various business office functions including but not limited to actively working Accounts Receivables, processing of insurance claims, electronic billing, posting of payments, timely account follow-up, collecting patient balances and setting up payment plans, answering patient questions on the phone along with end of day and month end balancing in accordance with business office policies and procedures to strengthen our Revenue Cycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge of the A/R process and works aging reports according to supervisor direction.
  • Process and submit pending insurance claims in accordance with billing guidelines and department procedures including follow up.
  • Troubleshoot claims and work with third party payers as well as patients to resolve the billing. This includes submitting corrected claims and creating appeal letters.
  • Posting of remittances from third party payers along with patient payments.
  • Collections of patient balances in accordance with collection procedures.
  • Analyze reimbursement audits to ensure transaction processing accuracy.
  • Provide customer service while addressing patient billing calls; resolves issues to meet patient needs or requirements in a timely and proactive manner.
  • Ensure daily balancing of posted charges and transactions.
  • Ability to navigate through and understand the Electronic Practice Management and Electronic Health Records (NextGen).
  • Processing of correspondence and filing in a timely manner.
  • Participate in regular team meetings; provide positive feedback and suggestions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Surgical Coordinator for our Ambulatory Surgery Center in Minnetonka. 
 
The Surgical Coordinator serves as the first patient contact in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Responsible for most clerical requirements of the ASC. Communications with the ASC, both internally and externally, are coordinated by this person.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Register all patients the day of surgery.
  • Verify all patient registration forms are accurate.
  • Gather required information, including but not limited to, insurance cards, copy of referral, releases.
  • Ensure all appropriate signatures have been obtained.
  • Communicate information or delays to the pre-op team.
  • Ensure patient’s rights, consents, advance directives are completed and in chart.
  • Assemble patient charts pre-operatively and post-operatively.
  • Retrieve and file charts accurately.
  • Manage incoming phone calls and distributes appropriately.
  • File incoming reports. i.e. pathology, laboratory, radiology, history & physicals.
  • Maintain specimen and visitor logs per ASC policy.
  • Responsible for opening and closing duties of the ASC.
  • Maintain and order clerical supplies.
  • Assist with data collection for special projects.
  • Be a resource for the alarm system and respond appropriately in the event of an alarm being triggered.
  • Follow protocol in a calm manner in the event of an emergency.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-services.
  • Assist surgery schedulers as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. Experience working in health care or surgery center environment preferred.

 
Location/Schedule Details
This position will be based in Minnetonka and is a 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week). Hours vary between 5:30am-4pm, Monday – Friday. While Minnetonka is designated as the home location, travel may be required to all Minnesota Eye locations: Blaine, Bloomington, and Woodbury.
