SUMMARY
The main duties of this position are to maintain an adequate level of anesthesia supplies/equipment in the operative region, to make deliveries to the Hospital when needed, stock supplies, assist nursing personnel with patient positioning, prepping and lifting. Functions as member of turnover team, assists OR Staff & Physicians as needed.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promotes the mission, vision and values of the company.
  • Gathers needed procedure appropriate supplies for each surgery.
  • Opens surgical supplies, sets up sterile field and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique. Identifies any break in sterile technique.
  • Anticipates the surgeons instrument/tray needs prior to their immediate need.
  • Updates surgeon preference cards as needed.
  • Reports missing or malfunctioning equipment and instruments to the OR Manager in a timely manner.
  • Operates equipment required to perform job in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy and utilizes PPE.
  • Washes and reprocesses instrumentation according to established standards and ASC policy.
Education and/or Experience
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program and/or a minimum of one-year experience as a Surgical Technician. Ophthalmology experience strongly preferred.
 
License/Registration/Certification 
Current BCLS certification required or must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment. Surgical Technician certification is strongly preferred.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibility.

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for patient check-in, patient check-out, as well as treating all patients in a professional and courteous manner. Review patient chart to verify necessary information and obtain appropriate signatures. Enter new patient information or update existing patient information into computer. Welcome all patients when they enter the office.
 
Essential Responsibilities
  •  Responsible for patient check-in, greeting every patient in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Mark arrival time of patients in office and make sure patients have been checked in and roomed.
  • Evaluate chart data to verify all information has been received, completed, and signatures obtained.
  • Verify and scan patient’s current insurance card.
  • Verify address, e-mail and phone number.
  • Communicate with patients if there will be a delay. Offer to reschedule if patient unable to stay.
  • Check-out all patients.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments as directed by the physician.
  • Schedule patients for transfer of care and order any required diagnostic testing.
  • Explain all fees and patient financial responsibility.
  • Secure all necessary patient signatures; obtain proper informed consent, and insurance authorization.
  • Collect fee for services and any past-due balances as required.

  • Ensure that proper authorization or referral is collected for the patient.

  • Assists in initial Operating Room (OR) set up, including wiping down all flat surfaces and assists in initial decontamination room set up.
  • Cleans OR with appropriate disinfecting agents.
  • Assists Nurse Manager in the maintenance of supply inventory.
  • Assists in end of day clean up procedures.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-services, accurately maintaining education file.

SUMMARY
The Patient Counselor is responsible for the scheduling of all surgical appointments, providing a positive first impression of PEI and being knowledgeable in complex scheduling scenarios and insurance plans. This includes meeting with patients, answering calls, entering demographic information, scheduling appointments, and providing appointment instructions to patients. The Patient Counselor is also responsible for patient education for recommended upgrades by the surgeon.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Schedule surgical patients as assigned by management in a clinic setting.
  • Create consistency in the patient experience through.
  • Conduct patient consultations for products and services recommended by the surgeon.
  • Maintain strong knowledge on current services and products available for patients.
  • Obtain and enter accurate patient demographics, including insurance information.
  • Complete patient registration at the time of scheduling and give tentative surgical date.
  • Coordinate patient care, ensuring accuracy of referrals for surgery by obtaining approval from providers and scheduling surgery and all post-operative appointments.
  • Request medical clearances as required for patient
  • Schedule and coordinate post-op visits, A-scans, IOL measurements and Pentacams. 
  • Request Cornea tissue from the eye bank and verify delivery time to coordinate with surgery. Follow up with Tissue Bank to confirm delivery.
  • Inform Surgery Center of any upgraded/premium services being added.
  • Complete and fax medical clearance requests to PCPs when indicated.
  • Maintain patient portal questions regarding scheduling and registration and contact patients back to schedule their requested appointments.
  • Receive and complete all tasks sent through the Electronic Health Records.
  • Prepare surgical charts and surgical paperwork.
  • Coordinate co-management services.
  • Facilitate strong communication with the surgery team and ASC Surgical Coordinators. Partner with ASC Coordinators to track and reschedule all cancellations and no shows.
  • Schedule and reschedule surgical patients as needed for your designated clinic for all Physicians.
  • Manage assigned surgeon’s ASC schedule and preferences to maximize block time at the ASCs ASC. Keep close communication with surgeons regarding their schedules.
  • Arrange co-surgeries and complex surgeries and procedures with external medical facilities.
  • Maintain surgery cancellation list and follow up with patients that need to be rescheduled.
  • Monitor voicemail on a regular basis to ensure patient’s needs are met in a timely manner.
  • This is an in-office position, remote work is not available.

SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse- Per-Diem provides professional, high quality, safe and efficient peri-operative nursing care to patients as a registered nurse. Roles include but not limited to circulating, scrubbing, preoperative and postoperative areas as assigned.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluation of self-practice in context with professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
  • Obtains patients’ medical history and performs physical assessment for assigned patients.
  • Presents the historical and physical data to the physician to aid in determining the diagnostic and therapeutic measures necessary to correct the patient’s problem, if needed.
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or practice policy including patient and family instruction; explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient; administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques; prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies for surgery.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient; responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
  • Participates in training of personnel.
 
Pre-Operative Nurse:
  • Responsible for preparing the patient for the anticipated surgical procedure, including verifying informed consent signatures, completing a pre-operative patient assessment and performing any procedure or administering medications required to prepare the patient for surgery
  • Communicates with the circulating staff, the recovery room nurse, the anesthesia care provider and the surgeon to coordinate a safe and comfortable surgical experience. She/he participates in patient education, makes nursing diagnoses and plans nursing care
Circulating Nurse:
  • Assesses patient condition before, during and after the procedure to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Responsible for maintaining sterile technique in the operating room to ensure patient safety
  • Supervises any unlicensed assertive personnel in the operating room
  • Responsible for ensuring that postoperative physician orders are communicated to the recovery room nursing staff for implementation
  • Develops a plan of care and evaluates patient outcomes
  • Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
Post-Operative Nurse: 
  • Responsible for patient assessment and maintaining the patient’s safety in recovering from anesthetic and surgical medications
  • Responsible for ensuring that the patient understands their post-operative care requirements
  • Collaborates with other peri-operative nursing staff, anesthesia care providers and the surgeon
  • Assesses patient outcomes
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Completion of accredited Registered Nursing Program from college or technical school. Two years RN experience in a hospital and/or surgery center setting. One-year pre-operative and post-operative experience highly preferred.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current, valid California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.
Current ACLS required.

SUMMARY
Surgical Technician prepares supplies, equipment and instrumentation for each surgery performed in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Surgical Technician will assist the physician with the maintenance of the sterile field and all supplies for each surgery. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promotes the mission, vision and values of the company
  • Gathers needed procedure appropriate supplies for each surgery.
  • Opens surgical supplies, sets up sterile field and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique. Identifies any break in sterile technique.
  • Anticipates the surgeons needs and requests appropriate supplies prior to their immediate need.
  • Updates surgeon preference cards as needed.
  • Reports missing or malfunctioning equipment and instruments to the OR Manager in a timely manner.
  • Operates equipment required to perform job in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs sharp and sponge counts with the RN & or Circulator according to policy.
  • Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy and utilizes PPE.
  • Washes and reprocesses instrumentation according to established standards and ASC policy.
  • Organizes storage area for instruments and supplies under the direction of the OR Manager.
  • Labels medication on the sterile field.  Accounts for and verifies amounts, reporting totals to both the surgeon and Anesthesiologist.
  • Maintains knowledge of commonly used local anesthetics, antibiotics, and topical hemostats.
  • Assist OR staff as directed with physician orders according to patient needs.
  • Assists in initial Operating Room (OR) set up, including wiping down all flat surfaces and assists in initial decontamination room set up.
  • Cleans OR with appropriate disinfecting agents.
  • Assists Nurse Manager in the maintenance of supply inventory.
  • Assists in end of day clean up procedures.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-services, accurately maintaining education file.
  • This position is in office, remote is not available.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 
Demonstrates the ability to operate computer programs (Excel, Word, Medical Manager, Intergy, Nextech) copier, fax, telephone, and calculator.
 
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program and one year of experience as a Surgical Technician preferred.
Ophthalmology experience strongly preferred.
 
License/Registration/Certification 
Current BCLS certification required or must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
Surgical Technician certification is strongly preferred.
