Ophthalmic Technician   
The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for performing measurements and tests that provide the physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. This position may see patients for any PEI provider within their skill-set.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Greet all patients and guests according to company standards, anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank others with genuine appreciation. Treat each patient with respect by greeting them by name, introducing yourself, and ensuring that the patient understands what will happen during the exam. 
  • Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications.
  • Perform ophthalmologic tests including visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, corneal topography, OCTs, lensometry, and other tests as directed within the prescribed timeline.
  • Assist with patient pre- and post-op counseling, procedure set up, and performing in office procedures.  Obtain consents when needed.
  • Calibrate diagnostic equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Instrument sterilization as needed.
  • Participate in trainings and meet requirements for Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measures, HIPAA compliance and Protected Health Information.
  • Ensure opening and closing of special testing rooms. Maintain stocking of exam lanes and maintain order in work areas.
  • Ensure company COVID-19 protocols are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Experience on Electronical Medical Records system preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Typing, Computer and Data entry
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High schedule diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry setting
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certification Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification preferred.

LOCATION/SCHEDULE DETAILS: This is a full-time, non-exempt position that supports the Inland Empire practices. The position is located in Upland, CA and may require travel to other clinics as assigned.   Work shift is Monday-Friday with start time as early as 7:00 a.m. and end time as late as 6:00 p.m.
