MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a Casual Registered Nurse in our Crosstown Ambulatory Surgery Center.  

SUMMARY
Provides professional, high quality, safe and efficient peri-operative nursing care to patients. Roles include circulating, scrubbing, preoperative and postoperative areas as assigned.  Starting pay is $38.00-42.00/hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluation of self-practice in context with professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
  • Obtains patients’ medical history and performs physical assessment for assigned patients.
  • Presents the historical and physical data to the physician to aid in determining the diagnostic and therapeutic measures necessary to correct the patient’s problem.
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or practice policy including patient and family instruction; explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient; administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques; prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies for surgery.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient; responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
  • Participates in training of personnel.
Pre-Operative duties: 
  • Responsible for preparing the patient for the anticipated surgical procedure, including obtaining an informed consent, completing a pre-operative patient assessment and performing any procedure or administering medications required to prepare the patient for surgery.
  • Communicates with the circulating nurse, the recovery room nurse, the anesthesia care provider and the surgeon to coordinate a safe and comfortable surgical experience. 
  • She/He participates in patient education, makes nursing diagnoses and plans nursing care.
Post-Operative duties:
  • Responsible for patient assessment and maintaining the patients safety in recovering from anesthetic and surgical medications
  • Responsible for ensuring that the patient understands their post-operative care requirements
  • Collaborates with other peri-operative nursing staff, anesthesia care providers and the surgeon
  • Assesses patient outcomes
  • Other duties as assigned.
Circulating Nurse duties (if applicable): 
  • Assesses patient condition before, during and after the procedure to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Responsible for maintaining sterile technique in the operating room to ensure patient safety
  • Supervises any unlicensed assertive personnel in the operating room.
  • Responsible for ensuring that postoperative physician orders are communicated to the recovery room nursing staff for implementation.
  • Develops a plan of care and evaluates patient outcomes.
  • Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for the patient.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Completion of accredited Registered Nursing Program from college or technical school. Two years RN experience in a hospital and/or surgery center setting. One year pre-operative and post-operative experience highly preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • A current and up to date MN Registered Nurse (RN) License is required
  • A current and up to date BLS certification is required
  • ACLS is required within 6 months of hire

MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time (32-40 hours/week) Surgical Technologist for our Ambulatory Surgery Center in Bloomington. 
 
SUMMARY 
The Surgical Technologist prepares supplies, equipment and instrumentation for each surgery performed in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Surgical Technologist will assist the physician with the maintenance of the sterile field and all supplies for each surgery. These individuals also assist the Nurse Manager in the maintenance of supply inventory.  Starting pay is $35.00-38.00/hour.
 
LOCATION/SCHEDULE
This position will be based in Bloomington and is 0.8-1.0 FTE (approximately 32-40 hours/week). Hours vary between  6am-4pm, Monday – Friday. While Bloomington is designated as the home location, travel may be required to all Minnesota Eye locations: Blaine, Crosstown, Minnetonka and Woodbury.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Gathers needed procedure appropriate supplies for each surgery.
  • Opens surgical supplies, sets up sterile field and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique. Identifies any break in sterile technique.
  • Anticipates the surgeons needs and requests appropriate supplies prior to their immediate need.
  • Updates surgeon preference cards as needed.
  • Reports missing or malfunctioning equipment and instruments to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Operates equipment required to perform job in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs sharp and sponge counts with the RN according to policy.
  • Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy and utilizes PPE.
  • Washes and reprocesses instrumentation according to established standards and ASC policy.
  • Organizes storage area for instruments and supplies under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
  • Labels medication on the sterile field.  Accounts for and verifies amounts, reporting totals to both the surgeon and the RN circulator.
  • Maintains knowledge of commonly used local anesthetics, antibiotics, and topical hemostats.
  • Assist RN as directed with physician orders according to patient needs.
  • Assists in initial Operating Room (OR) set up, including wet mopping floor and wiping down all flat surfaces and assists in initial decontamination room set up.
  • Cleans OR with appropriate disinfecting agents.
  • Assists in end of day clean up procedures.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-services, accurately maintaining education file.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
 QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program and a minimum of one year.
  • Current BCLS certification required or must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Surgical Technologist certification is strongly preferred.

The RN Manager oversees daily ASC operations, staffing, regulatory compliance, and clinical quality outcomes,while directly managing nursing and technical staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care Oversight
  • Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality peri-operative nursing care across pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative services.
  • Establish and enforce clinical protocols, policies, and evidence-based practices.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives.

Operational Management

  • Partner with leadership to support budget adherence, cost control, and operational efficiency.

Staff Leadership & Development
  • Directly supervise nursing staff, surgical techs, sterile processing staff, and support personnel.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The RN Manager may need to provide direct patient care coverage as required, including:
 
Pre-Operative
  • Conduct patient assessments and verify surgical readiness.
  • Ensure informed consent and pre-op preparation compliance.
Circulating Nurse
  • Oversee intra-operative care, sterile technique, and patient safety.
  • Coordinate surgical team activities and ensure proper documentation.
Post-Operative
  • Monitor recovery, assess patient stability, and ensure discharge readiness.
  • Educate patients on post-operative care instructions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct supervision of nursing staff, surgical technicians, and support personnel.
  • Responsible for performance management, scheduling, and staffing decisions.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Completion of accredited Registered Nursing Program from college or technical school. 
  • A minimum of 5 years RN experience in a hospital and/or surgery center setting preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of leadership or management experience
  • Strong background in peri-operative nursing (pre-op, OR, PACU)

SUMMARY 

Pre-Operative Surgical Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating with patients and the Ambulatory Surgery Center to ensure all pre-operative labs, medical clearances, and pre-operative instructions for patients are provided in advance of the surgery date. They will be responsible for completing all pre-operative calls using specific physician guidelines, along with completing all clinical and surgical disability correspondence for patients. You will assist with helping patients understand balances owed for procedures and collecting payments as needed. You will assist with co-management duties as assigned. 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the team in reviewing patient record prior to surgery to ensure all pre-operative medical clearance is obtained, including labs, history and physical, etc.
  • Answers and originates a large number of patient calls to answer questions about their surgical procedure, payments due, and provide detailed pre-operative instructions.
  • Answer patient questions and provide assistance in completing all disability paperwork.
  • Utilize our medical office software to schedule new and follow-up appointments for our patients as needed.
  • Update necessary records, including patient demographics and insurance coverage if needed.
  • Experience understanding patient out-of-pocket fees, eligibility, and authorizations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient records.
  • Verify, update and enter insurance information into the electronic practice management system (EPM) including policy information, benefit coverage, and referrals, as needed.
  • Identify any potential comanage accounts and effectively communicate this information to patients and medical offices.
  • Other co-management duties as assigned.
  • Provide timely responses to voicemail and email inquiries.
  • Provide feedback to scheduling staff or appropriate business office staff of necessary waivers or special instructions that may be needed.
  • This is an in-office position, remote work is not available.
  • Other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • General knowledge of medical terms, conditions, and surgical flow.
  • General knowledge of pharmaceutical terms and medications.
  • Professional verbal communication skills showing high level patient service.
  • Organized and can move between multiple tasks while maintaining progress in work and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance processes and procedures.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma required. 
  • LVN license preferred.
  • Experience in a medical or healthcare office required, experience in ophthalmology or optometry preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse license is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluation of self-practice in context with professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
  • Obtains patients’ medical history and performs physical assessment for assigned patients.
  • Presents the historical and physical data to the physician to aid in determining the diagnostic and therapeutic measures necessary to correct the patient’s problem, if needed.
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or practice policy including patient and family instruction; explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient; administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques; prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies for surgery.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient; responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
  • Participates in training of personnel.
 
Pre-Operative Nurse:
  • Responsible for preparing the patient for the anticipated surgical procedure, including verifying informed consent signatures, completing a pre-operative patient assessment and performing any procedure or administering medications required to prepare the patient for surgery
  • Communicates with the circulating staff, the recovery room nurse, the anesthesia care provider and the surgeon to coordinate a safe and comfortable surgical experience. She/he participates in patient education, makes nursing diagnoses and plans nursing care
Circulating Nurse:
  • Assesses patient condition before, during and after the procedure to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Responsible for maintaining sterile technique in the operating room to ensure patient safety
  • Supervises any unlicensed assertive personnel in the operating room
  • Responsible for ensuring that postoperative physician orders are communicated to the recovery room nursing staff for implementation
  • Develops a plan of care and evaluates patient outcomes
  • Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
Post-Operative Nurse: 
  • Responsible for patient assessment and maintaining the patient’s safety in recovering from anesthetic and surgical medications
  • Responsible for ensuring that the patient understands their post-operative care requirements
  • Collaborates with other peri-operative nursing staff, anesthesia care providers and the surgeon
  • Assesses patient outcomes

SUMMARY
Surgical Technician prepares supplies, equipment and instrumentation for each surgery performed in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Surgical Technician will assist the physician with the maintenance of the sterile field and all supplies for each surgery. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promotes the mission, vision and values of the company
  • Gathers needed procedure appropriate supplies for each surgery.
  • Opens surgical supplies, sets up sterile field and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique. Identifies any break in sterile technique.
  • Anticipates the surgeons needs and requests appropriate supplies prior to their immediate need.
  • Updates surgeon preference cards as needed.
  • Reports missing or malfunctioning equipment and instruments to the OR Manager in a timely manner.
  • Operates equipment required to perform job in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs sharp and sponge counts with the RN & or Circulator according to policy.
  • Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy and utilizes PPE.
  • Washes and reprocesses instrumentation according to established standards and ASC policy.
  • Organizes storage area for instruments and supplies under the direction of the OR Manager.
  • Labels medication on the sterile field.  Accounts for and verifies amounts, reporting totals to both the surgeon and Anesthesiologist.
  • Maintains knowledge of commonly used local anesthetics, antibiotics, and topical hemostats.
  • Assist OR staff as directed with physician orders according to patient needs.
  • Assists in initial Operating Room (OR) set up, including wiping down all flat surfaces and assists in initial decontamination room set up.
  • Cleans OR with appropriate disinfecting agents.
  • Assists Nurse Manager in the maintenance of supply inventory.
  • Assists in end of day clean up procedures.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-services, accurately maintaining education file.
  • This position is in office, remote is not available.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 
Demonstrates the ability to operate computer programs (Excel, Word, Medical Manager, Intergy, Nextech) copier, fax, telephone, and calculator.
 
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program
Experience working in health care or surgery center environment preferred.

Current BCLS certification
