Medical Billing Specialist Job – Bloomington, MN
MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time Medical Biller at our Bloomington location. This position can be 100% remote or a hybrid position: work from home and in office.
SUMMARY
Performs various business office functions including but not limited to actively working Accounts Receivables, processing of insurance claims, electronic billing, posting of payments, timely account follow-up, collecting patient balances and setting up payment plans, answering patient questions on the phone along with end of day and month end balancing in accordance with business office policies and procedures to strengthen our Revenue Cycle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Knowledge of the A/R process and works aging reports according to supervisor direction.
- Process and submit pending insurance claims in accordance with billing guidelines and department procedures including follow up.
- Troubleshoot claims and work with third party payers as well as patients to resolve the billing. This includes submitting corrected claims and creating appeal letters.
- Posting of remittances from third party payers along with patient payments.
- Collections of patient balances in accordance with collection procedures.
- Analyze reimbursement audits to ensure transaction processing accuracy.
- Provide customer service while addressing patient billing calls; resolves issues to meet patient needs or requirements in a timely and proactive manner.
- Ensure daily balancing of posted charges and transactions.
- Ability to navigate through and understand the Electronic Practice Management and Electronic Health Records (NextGen).
- Processing of correspondence and filing in a timely manner.
- Participate in regular team meetings; provide positive feedback and suggestions.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s degree (AA) from two-year college or technical school preferred; and/or equivalent experience.
- Three or more years’ experience in Medical and Insurance Billing, including knowledge of health insurance plan benefits and medical policies, ICD-10 and CPT codes.

SUMMARY
- Ensure that charges for services provided are accurately billed to the appropriate insurance companies via electronic and paper claim submissions
- Reviews accounts receivable to maximize collections including and resubmitting previously denied claims
- Receive, retrieve, sort and post incoming payments
- Manage status of accounts and balances and identifying inconsistencies
- Send reminders for payments and contact clients when assigned
- Identifies over payments and creates refund request
- Accurately reviews and resolves assigned claim and clearinghouse edits and payer rejections to minimize lag days
- Answer questions and handle complaints from patients regarding bills
- Adherence to laws and best practices in regards to dealing with customers and data
- Other duties as assigned
- Accurate and reliable in handling accounts and documents
- High degree of attention to detail and trustworthiness
