Northwest Eye has a current opening for a Medical Scribe at our Golden Valley location.
Position Summary
The Medical Scribe assists the Doctor of Ophthalmology and/or Optometry in accurately documenting the patient exam in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and ensuring billing documentation has been submitted. The Medical Scribe partners with other clinical staff to ensure an efficient patient flow and quality patient care. Starting pay is $18.50-21.00/hour.
Location and Schedule
This position is based at our Golden Valley location, however some travel is expected to all Northwest Eye Clinic locations (Maple Grove, Children’s West – Minnetonka, St. Anthony, Wayzata, Woodbury).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares the exam room for the day.
- Ensures MD lenses are clean (20D, 90D and Super Field).
- Stocks all instruments, note pads, recall/appointment slips, sample medications, and other supplies needed to complete an exam.
- Cleans procedure room.
- Notifies the Lead Technician or Clinic Manager of any inventory supply shortages.
- Rooms patients for provider exam per Provider Exam Preparation Protocol.
- Has working knowledge of the pediatric flag system and has the ability to administer drops.
- Closes and restocks exam rooms at the end of the day.
- Prepares procedure room for use, including having knowledge of the procedure to be performed and helps comfort patient during procedure.
- Re-stocks supplies in the procedure room.
- Sets up solution for soaking instruments.
- Wraps and sterilizes instruments.
- Complies with all rules and regulations in all areas of chart documentation.
- Completes and closes all encounters ensuring the following:
- All coding and billing has been completed.
- Follow up appointments, testing, and surgery information has been completed.
- Drop protocol has been entered for upcoming surgeries.
- Tasks have been sent to the Surgery Schedulers after surgical consults.
- Ensures all tasks in the doctor task box have been addressed by end of each clinic session.
- Primarily responsible for document scanning into the electronic medical record.
- Primarily responsible for ordering outside labs and radiology.
- Primarily responsible for form completion (DMV, FLMA, MN Lions, etc.).
- Assists with preloading paper charts.
- Prepares consent forms for procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of ophthalmology terminology and pharmacology, including accurate spelling and understanding of meaning of terms.
- Knowledge of approved Northwest Eye abbreviations.
- Knowledge of ICD 9 and ICD 10 coding requirements.
- Ability to follow established systems, standards, and procedures
- Excellent computer skills, including ability to document patient encounter with a high attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to display compassion while attending to patients’ needs and concerns.
- Able to communicate and work with entire clinic team and management.
