MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Medical Scribe in our Woodbury clinic.

Position Summary:

The Scribe assists the Doctors of Ophthalmology and/or Optometry with documentation of the patient exam into the patient’s electronic health record (EHR). The Scribe will also assist with facilitation of surgery and procedure scheduling and scheduling of return appointments as directed by the provider. Partners with other clinic staff to facilitate efficient clinic flow and ensure quality patient care.

Location and Schedule:

This position is based in our Woodbury clinic but will be required to travel with the Physician and Physician Practice Coordinator to other MEC clinics as needed based on the Physician’s schedule. This position works Monday-Friday with hours varying between 6:30am – 5:00pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Document patient exam in EHR, scribing all elements of the patient exam including contact lens template, procedure orders, e-prescribing medications and scheduling the return to clinic.
Provide patient and family counseling/education as needed, including the creation of medication grids.
Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.
Print and dispense glasses and/or contact lens prescriptions as directed.
Review all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensure chart documentation meets ICD-10 requirements.
Obtain patient signature on consent documents for in lane procedures.
Set up exam rooms per provider preference, keep exam rooms stocked and clean between patients; cleaned at end of each work day; assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.
Run EHR reports at end of clinic to ensure completion of patient documents.
Partner with providers to prepare culture documents, ensure proper storage of specimens, contact lab for pickup and ensure specimen is in the lockbox for pick up.
Attend trainings and stay current on requirements for Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measures, HIPAA compliance and Protected Health Information.
Schedule return appointments and/or enter recalls in Electronic Practice Management (EPM) as ordered by the provider, including referrals to outside providers
Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or experience required:

High schedule diploma or equivalent.
No previous experience required.
Keyboarding and computer knowledge.
Previous experience with EHR systems and ophthalmology/optometry experience preferred.
Bilingual a plus.
1-2 years related experience in a medical office or equivalent education preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
MSCAT preferred.

Position Summary:

The primary focus of the Physician Practice Coordinator (PPC) is to be accountable to the assigned Physician’s (MD) clinical practice by ensuring clinic days are efficient and according to established standards and protocols while maintaining the highest regard for patient care and the overall patient experience.

Location/Schedule:

This position is based in our Minnetonka clinic but will be required to travel with the Physician and Scribe to other MEC clinics as needed based on the Physician’s schedule. This position works Monday-Friday with hours varying between 6:30am – 5:00pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate assigned MD’s clinic and laser schedule to ensure proper patient flow.
Greet patients and guests according to company standards, anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank others with genuine appreciation. Treat each patient with respect by greeting them by name, introducing self, and ensuring that the patient understands what will happen during the exam.
Document patient exam in electronic medical record, scribing all elements of the patient exam including contact lens template, procedure orders, e-prescribing medications, and scheduling return to clinic appointment(s). Complete coding as directed by MD and ensure charges are captured at the end of every visit.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of daily created clinic chart notes.
Execute special documentation, letters, and other requests with the transcription service.
Coordinate and schedule clinic appointments, including urgents, overbooks , referrals to outside providers, and in-clinic procedures.
Complete all patient issues and tasks and work in partnership with Scribe when necessary. Respond to patient inquiries and document concerns in feedback system. Ensure all patient issues are addressed within one business day.
Counsel/educate patient and family as needed, including the creation of medication grids.
Run end of clinic daily reports and ensure completion of patient documents including but not limited to FMLA, DMV, and disability.
Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.
Assist in minor clinic procedures, including but not limited to obtaining patient signature on consent documents and administering medications.
Print and dispense glasses and/or contact lens prescriptions as directed.
Set up exam rooms and treatment rooms for procedures per MD preference. Ensure exam rooms are continuously stocked with appropriate supplies, cleaned between patients and again at the end of each work day, as well as to assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.
Prepare culture documents and ensure proper storage of specimens, when necessary.
Participate in the onboarding and training of new Team Members, especially those who are assigned to work with the same MD.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

At least three years related experience in a medical office or equivalent education required. Previous experience with electronic medical record systems and ophthalmology/optometry experience highly preferred. Bilingual a plus.

MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time 0.8 FTE (32-40 hours/week) Surgical Technologist for our Ambulatory Surgery Center in Woodbury.

SUMMARY

The Surgical Technologist prepares supplies, equipment and instrumentation for each surgery performed in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Surgical Technologist will assist the physician with the maintenance of the sterile field and all supplies for each surgery. These individuals also assist the Nurse Manager in the maintenance of supply inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Gathers needed procedure appropriate supplies for each surgery.
Opens surgical supplies, sets up sterile field and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique. Identifies any break in sterile technique.
Anticipates the surgeons needs and requests appropriate supplies prior to their immediate need.
Updates surgeon preference cards as needed.
Reports missing or malfunctioning equipment and instruments to the RN in a timely manner.
Operates equipment required to perform job in a safe and efficient manner.
Performs sharp and sponge counts with the RN according to policy.
Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy and utilizes PPE.
Washes and reprocesses instrumentation according to established standards and ASC policy.
Organizes storage area for instruments and supplies under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
Labels medication on the sterile field. Accounts for and verifies amounts, reporting totals to both the surgeon and the RN circulator.
Maintains knowledge of commonly used local anesthetics, antibiotics, and topical hemostats.
Assist RN as directed with physician orders according to patient needs.
Assists in initial Operating Room (OR) set up, including wet mopping floor and wiping down all flat surfaces and assists in initial decontamination room set up.
Cleans OR with appropriate disinfecting agents.
Assists in end of day clean up procedures.
Participates in staff meetings and in-services, accurately maintaining education file.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program and a minimum of one year experience as a Surgical Technologist
Ophthalmology experience strongly preferred.
Current BCLS certification required or must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
Surgical Technologist certification is strongly preferred.

Location/Schedule Details:

This position will be based in Minnetonka and is 0.8-1.0 FTE (approximately 32-40 hours/week). Hours vary between 5:30am-4pm, Monday – Friday. While Woodbury is designated as the home location, travel may be required to all Minnesota Eye locations: Blaine, Bloomington, and Minnetonka.

SUMMARY
Provides professional, high quality, safe and efficient peri-operative nursing care to patients. Roles include circulating, scrubbing, preoperative and postoperative areas as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluation of self-practice in context with professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
Obtains patients’ medical history and performs physical assessment for assigned patients.
Presents the historical and physical data to the physician to aid in determining the diagnostic and therapeutic measures necessary to correct the patient’s problem.
Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or practice policy including patient and family instruction; explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient; administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques; prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies for surgery.
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient; responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
Participates in training of personnel.

Pre-Operative duties:

Responsible for preparing the patient for the anticipated surgical procedure, including obtaining an informed consent, completing a pre-operative patient assessment and performing any procedure or administering medications required to prepare the patient for surgery.
Communicates with the circulating nurse, the recovery room nurse, the anesthesia care provider and the surgeon to coordinate a safe and comfortable surgical experience.
She/He participates in patient education, makes nursing diagnoses and plans nursing care.

Post-Operative duties:

Responsible for patient assessment and maintaining the patients safety in recovering from anesthetic and surgical medications
Responsible for ensuring that the patient understands their post-operative care requirements
Collaborates with other peri-operative nursing staff, anesthesia care providers and the surgeon
Assesses patient outcomes
Other duties as assigned.

Circulating Nurse duties (if applicable):

Assesses patient condition before, during and after the procedure to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsible for maintaining sterile technique in the operating room to ensure patient safety
Supervises any unlicensed assertive personnel in the operating room.
Responsible for ensuring that postoperative physician orders are communicated to the recovery room nursing staff for implementation.
Develops a plan of care and evaluates patient outcomes.
Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for the patient.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Completion of accredited Registered Nursing Program from college or technical school. Two years RN experience in a hospital and/or surgery center setting. One year pre-operative and post-operative experience highly preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A current and up to date MN Registered Nurse (RN) License is required
A current and up to date BLS certification is required
ACLS is required within 6 months of hire
