MN Eye Consultants is currently hiring for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Ophthalmic Technician for our Blaine clinic.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing measurements and tests that provide the physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. This position primarily works with Doctors of Optometry but may see patients for any MEC provider within their skill-set. Starting pay is $20.00-23.00/hour.
Location/Schedule
This position will work Monday-Friday, between 7:30am-5:00pm. May require an occasional 1/2 day on Saturday. The home base of this position is the Blaine clinic, but may be scheduled to work shifts at the other MEC locations as needed (Bloomington, Minnetonka and Woodbury).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome and acknowledge all patients and guests according to company standards, anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank others with genuine appreciation.
- Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications.

Perform and document subjective and objective ophthalmic testing efficiently to provide basic information necessary for ophthalmic examinations. This includes but is not limited to: history, visual acuities, lensometry (manual and auto), refractometry, keratometry (manual and automated), visual fields, tonometry, assisting with office procedures

Educate patients regarding diagnostic testing and their clinic visit

Open and close exam rooms, ensure all equipment is clean and ready for the doctor; stock all necessary supplies
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum of 1 year of direct patient care experience within an eye clinic or Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant or LPN experience

Optometry or Ophthalmology experience preferred but not required

The Ophthalmic Testing Assistant is responsible for supporting clinical flow by performing visual field and OCT testing. Starting pay is $18.50-$21.00/hour.
Location/Schedule:
- This position will work Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7:00am-5:00pm.
- The Home base for this position is the Minnesota Eye Consultants Blaine clinic however may be scheduled to work shifts at the other clinic locations as needed (Minnetonka, Bloomington, and Woodbury).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs patient workups along with preliminary and diagnostic testing including visual acuity, patient history, lensometry if needed, and visual fields in accordance with established protocols.
- Facilitates efficient patient flow by monitoring schedules and identifies potential schedule conflicts. Notifies appropriate member of management or designee of issues for proper resolution.
- Ensures and maintains order in assigned work areas.
- Participates in regular team meetings and reports team progress to ensure effective team and inter-department communications.
- Attends and participates in research project initiation meetings when requested.
- Responsible for ongoing professional self-development training and skills.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of six months customer service experience required.
- Experience working in healthcare settings preferred, but not required.

- Document patient exam in EHR, scribing all elements of the patient exam including contact lens template, procedure orders, e-prescribing medications and scheduling the return to clinic.
- Provide patient and family counseling/education as needed, including the creation of medication grids.
- Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.
- Print and dispense glasses and/or contact lens prescriptions as directed.
- Review all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensure chart documentation meets ICD-10 requirements.
- Obtain patient signature on consent documents for in lane procedures.
- Set up exam rooms per provider preference, keep exam rooms stocked and clean between patients; cleaned at end of each work day; assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.
- Run EHR reports at end of clinic to ensure completion of patient documents.
- Partner with providers to prepare culture documents, ensure proper storage of specimens, contact lab for pickup and ensure specimen is in the lockbox for pick up.
- Attend trainings and stay current on requirements for Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measures, HIPAA compliance and Protected Health Information.
- Schedule return appointments and/or enter recalls in Electronic Practice Management (EPM) as ordered by the provider, including referrals to outside providers
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or experience required:
- High schedule diploma or equivalent.
- No previous experience required.
- Great experience for future medical students
- Keyboarding and computer knowledge.
- Previous experience with EHR systems and ophthalmology/optometry experience preferred.
- Bilingual a plus.
- 1-2 years related experience in a medical office or equivalent education preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Summary
The Refractive Surgical Coordinator is responsible for achieving, if not exceeding, growth targets for our Refractive and Advanced Cataract Package services. This position will provide education and counseling based on the recommendations of the physician. This individual will drive the exceptional experiences our patients and referring providers receive when working with Minnesota Eye Consultants. Starting pay is $50,000-$54,000/year with quarterly bonus opportunity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge and patient flow expert for Minnesota Eye Consultants’ elective services, such as refractive procedures and processes in order to effectively counsel, educate and schedule patients.
- Respond timely and accurately to patient phone and in-person inquiries.
- Provide an exceptional patient experience during the consultation and pre-operative portion of the LASIK surgery and Advanced Cataract appointments, including but not limited to, proper patient education and counseling, scheduling, and paperwork/payment collection.
- Effectively collaborate with management to promote exceptional patient experience.
- Proactively follow-up with non-committed patients, engaging in the education process.
- Accurately prepare patient charts for upcoming procedures.
- Monitor electronic medical records task box; complete all assigned tasks according to policy and protocols.
- Complete 30-day refractive cards and letters; send to patients.
- Coordinate referrals for surgery by obtaining approval from providers and scheduling surgery and all post-operative appointments.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school education with one-two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience with a high focus on customer service, sales, and medical background. 2+ years of Ophthalmology experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
COA, COT or COMT preferred.
